Alison is Associate Professor in Social Anthropology at the department of Anthropology, UCL. Her academic expertise is in education and pedagogy, and her research spans primary, secondary and higher education contexts in England. Her research focuses on the politics of education with a specific interest in alternative and progressive approaches to schooling and relational pedagogy. She is particularly interested in the links between education and inequalities, and using ethnographic and participatory methodologies to achieve an evidence based understanding of the mechanisms and conditions for inclusive education. Collaborative and creative methods are central to Alison’s research practice and she has experience working in partnership with adults and young people using photography (Photovoice), ethnographic documentary film, and art-based methodologies (Body Mapping).
